My parents gave my sister, brother and me the very best childhood you could ever imagine. We were well loved. Had enough money to do lovely things. Traveled (once to Toledo, I kid you not.) And generally had the kind of upbringing most people dream of. We lived near an amusement park called Jolly Cholly's. It was one of those 1950s family parks with mini golf, a pizza parlor and kiddie rides up to teen rides. Oh to grow up to ride the Music Express and maybe kiss a boy... My brother Rich found this YouTube of Cholly Jolly. Tomorrow is his birthday. 39. How is my little brother 39? Watching this video I am seven years old. Meet you on The Whip!

I remember when he was born. My Dad was reaaaly happy to have a son. I was reaaaly unhappy to have a baby brother!

I remember Jolly Cholly's! I lived in Seekonk for ten years when I was a kid. Loved those little helicopters! Did you ever go to Crescent Park in Riverside? There's nothing left but the carousel now.
Crescent Park? YES! I loved the aerial tram. And Rocky Point with the huge sea water filled pool and the BEST clam cakes on the planet. And Paragon Park in Nantasket. After Jolly Cholly's we'd go to Ho Lu's Chinese next door.
Yup, every summer they'd have "3$ per carload" day at Crescent Park and we'd pile all the neighborhood kids into the station wagon and head out for the day. I remember being terrified on the Flying Fish! And clam cakes! I go back to Rhode Island for them every year. My Philly-raised hubby doesn't get it.
